New coffee blend

This Christmas, my husband and I decided not to go overboard on the presents especially since we have a baby coming on board. In light of that decision, I wanted to get him something extra special but not too expensive. I know the guy loves his coffee and he’s constantly buying and running out of beans from the usual places (Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Starbucks, etc) so last week, I decided to get him a brand new blend of espresso coffee beans that we can’t find at any of the local shops in the metro DC area. I went to and searched for some reviews on best espresso blends and went with Intelligentsia’s  Black Cat espresso blend, both the regular and decaf versions. Intelligentsia is based in Chicago, IL and their beans are sold across the country in various cafes but not in the metro DC area although I could be wrong. I vaguely remember that a cafe I went to in Providence, RI sold and brewed Intelligentsia but I didn’t think anything of it until now.

Anyway, my packages of coffee beans arrived today on Christmas Eve and I just finished giftwrapping the package! I can’t wait to try some of it tomorrow morning! Oh yah, and I can’t wait for my husband to open his present and try his new coffee blends too! 🙂 Yay for Christmas!

Back to back baby showers

On Friday afternoon, my office held our holiday party. We ate tasty hors d’oeuvre from Russia House (mini crabcakes, veal meatballs, shrimp on crostini, etc.), drank some specialty wines (pictured below), and had a white elephant gift exchange. Unbeknownst to me, the staff had also organized a surprise baby shower for me. It was wonderful because they ordered vanilla baby shower themed cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes, the best cupcakes in the metro DC area (in my opinion, they should have won top cupcake in the metro DC area while the Washington Post was running that story). Our baby received some very cute outfits, blankets, and accessories. Thanks to my wonderful coworkers.

On Saturday evening, my family threw a baby shower with over 40 people in attendance. My husband and I cleaned and prepped the house, I prepared the appetizers and my family prepared the main dishes. When guests arrived, we played baby shower games and opened up a ton of presents for the baby. After the party ended at midnight, my husband and I were so exhausted after our long day but we took a moment to think about how blessed and happy we are to have such a great support network as newbie parents.

Kitchen renovations done

I’m so glad that our kitchen is finally done!!! I think it looks great although I still have some reservations about the colors we picked out.

Here’s our kitchen renovation timeline:

On Wednesday right before Turkey Day, our new granite countertops were installed.

On Thursday the morning of Turkey Day, the plumber came and installed the faucet.

On Friday, my husband and I went to the Great Indoors to purchase a light fixture for the kitchen and to Home Depot to pick out colors for a repaint. We decided on ocean pearl (glidden) which is the same color as our living room with a blueish grey (I’m not sure what the exact color is) as an accent color.

On Saturday, we had a contractor, Hugo, out to put in new drywall where the old blue backsplash used to be. He also worked on the ceilings, lighting and other things around the house.

On Monday, Hugo’s guys came back and painted. This is the finished product:
